LUBBOCK, Texas -- Juan and Daniela Villa, owners of Villas Tortillas off of 34th Street and University Avenue, said they try to create an experience from the moment customers walk into their shop.
“It's a combination of the smell, the sounds of the machine, the heat and, you just offer great tortillas to people,” explained Juan.
The couple is from New Mexico, but the inspiration for the business came from a tradition at Texas Tech football games that many Red Raiders participate in.
“We're sitting there and at kickoff, somebody threw a tortilla at us and we turned around, and just [saw] this, you know, storm of tortillas flying around,” Juan said.
