Thousands of music fans are descending on the Twin City’s downtown for this weekend’s 24th annual Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion.

Established in 2001 to pay homage to and carry on the work of the 1927 Bristol Sessions recordings – which helped spark the global popularity of country music -- this year’s festival began Friday and continues Saturday and Sunday.

Much like those historic recordings, the festival showcases a wide array of musical genres on stages all over downtown Bristol.

Saturday’s lineup includes almost 50 performances on five outdoor and seven indoor stages. Music is scheduled to begin at noon or 12:30 on most stages and continue until 11 p.m., with three stages featuring music until midnight, according to the festival schedule.
