Nevada's unemployment rate has dropped to its lowest level since March 2024.

That’s based on preliminary data for August released Sept. 19 by the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics.

They show the percentage of Nevadans who want a job but can’t find one decreasing from a peak of 5.8% earlier this year to 5.3%.

Nationwide, the unemployment trend is going slightly in the other direction. In January this year, the unemployment rate was 4%. It's stayed one- to two-tenths above that ever since. The new federal numbers show it hitting a high this year of 4.3% in August.
