CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - Two Romanian brothers were indicted in federal court after allegedly running an identity theft ring in Mecklenburg County using electronic benefit transfer (EBT) cards.
Marian and Catalin Dumitru were indicted on Sept. 18, after being charged with conspiracy to defraud the United States, possession of 15 or more unauthorized access devices, wire fraud (two counts), and aggravated identity theft (four counts). Marian was also charged with illegal possession of device-making equipment.
According to court documents, 26 debit cards, 12 cell phones, two tablets and chargers, and an MSR X6 scanner were found.
