KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A woman has been arrested after police say she stole a city bus in Lawrence Friday morning and led officers on a short chase.

The incident happened about 11:15 a.m. on Friday.

According to a Facebook post from the Lawrence Police Department, the woman "forced her way" into the driver's seat of a city bus at the Central Transit Station. The driver and two passengers were able to exit the bus before the woman started driving away.

She drove more than two miles from the bus station before she was caught. Police said she drove north on Iowa Street, then east on Sixth Street and north on Maine Street, traveling about 35 to 40 mph.

Officers "were eventually able to surround the bus to pin her in" near Second and Michigan streets, police said, and then she surrendered.
