AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Augusta taxpayers are on the hook for $25,000 after the city of Augusta settles a lawsuit with a man arrested by Richmond County deputies in 2022.
Your 12 On Your Side investigators uncovered video of Cameron Ruff’s arrest at the Motel 6 on Boy Scout Road.
In the video, you can see Richmond County deputy Ty Dailey punch him several times in the face while he’s in handcuffs.
The sheriff’s office suspended Dailey for this, but it was only after 12 On Your Side Investigates requested the body camera video.
The sheriff’s office had no idea this incident had even happened.
After his arrest, Ruff sued the county, saying Dailey used excessive force while he was handcuffed. Ruff’s attorney wrote that Dailey violated his constitutional rights and that Dailey’s action
