North Lanarkshire Council has received planning applications for the installation of two telecommunications hubs near footpaths in Airdrie and Coatbridge .
The applications from BT concern a street hub, which would be located off a footpath close to Coatbridge Main Street and Airdrie's Bank Street.
Information provided by BT describes street hubs as free to use community asset improving which "improves network connections in urban areas, offering wi-fi, free phone calls and awareness messaging", while also having the capability to house sensors measuring things like air quality and traffic volumes.
