COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - A downtown Columbia park is set to reopen following a two-year renovation.

Finlay Park will officially reopen with a ceremony on Nov. 15 at 10 a.m. after more than $24 million has been spent on renovating the park.

The park was an iconic Columbia landmark when it first opened in the 90s, but soon ran into problems when the fountain centerpiece ran dry in 2015, and many residents began to take issue with a large portion of the city’s homeless population using the area as a gathering space.

While inital discussion concerning park renovations began in 2019, it wasn’t until 2022 that Columbia City Council passed a resolution, giving $21.5 million to allow construction to begin.
