ALEXANDRIA, Va. (DC News Now) -- An Alexandria man was convicted Friday of distributing child sexual abuse material (CSAM) over a mobile-messaging platform and faces up to 40 years in prison, the United States Attorney's Office (USAO) announced.

Antonio Rudy Gonzalez, 41, was found guilty of distributing and possessing CSAM while on supervised release. The USAO noted that Gonzalez was registered as a sex offender after he was convicted in 2013 of distributing child pornography.

According to court documents, in April 2024, an investigation into Gonzalez began after he was distributing CSAM on Kik, a mobile-based messaging platform, by sending pictures of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct to other Kik users.
