BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) - Veterans around the country took time out of their day on Friday to pause and reflect on the sacrifices made by war heroes who are unaccounted for.

September 19 is National POW/MIA Recognition Day. Held on the third Friday in September, the day serves as a call to action.

The American Legion Post 1645 in Binghamton held its annual remembrance ceremony Friday morning. Legion members told the stories of former POW/MIAs, honored four local veterans, and prayed for those who are still prisoners of war.

Joe Sullivan is an Army veteran who served in the Fourth Division in Vietnam. He says that during the ceremony, his thoughts were on the military families who were never reunited with their loved ones.
