LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - A Lake Charles man is facing several charges after a years-long investigation into an alleged bank fraud scheme.

Trevon Benoit, 27, faces the following charges:

Bank fraud (five counts)

Forgery (three counts)

Assault with a motor vehicle upon a peace officer

Resisting an officer

First-offense possession of marijuana

Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon

The charges stem from an investigation conducted over the past two years by Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office Financial Crimes detectives. Investigators said account holders at various banks and credit unions were depositing counterfeit and forged checks and withdrawing the money.

According to investigators, Benoit was recruiting the account holders to deposit and cash the fraudulent checks. In 202
