A man was arrested in connection to a fatal stabbing last week in New Orleans East, police said Monday.

Darryl Loving, 58, was booked on a count of second-degree murder, according to the New Orleans Police Department.

Police responded to a call about a suspicious person and a request for a welfare check on the 9000 block of Chef Menteur Highway in the Venetian Isles neighborhood around 5 a.m. Thursday.

Officers found a man who was unresponsive with various injuries, including a stab wound, police said. He was declared dead at the scene.

The victim's name has not been released by the Orleans Parish Coroner's Office as of Monday.

Officers located Loving nearby and detained him. He was injured and taken to a local hospital, police said.
