LEAVENWORTH, Kan. (KCTV) - Two Tonganoxie women have been sentenced for their roles in an animal abuse case.

Thirty-five-year-old Jessica L. Fleer and 42-year-old Amanda E. Fleer were sentenced on Friday, Sept. 19 for charges stemming from an October 2024 incident.

Two people found a black poodle malnourished and abandoned in the middle of Tonganoxie Drive near 199th Street on Oct. 17, 2024. The dog was malnourished, infested with fleas and had matted fur.

A scan of the dog’s microchip revealed Jessica and Amanda Fleer as the owners.

Both women were sentenced to six months in the Leavenworth County Jail, but a judge suspended the sentences and instead placed each woman on one year of supervised probation.
