Britain named the least joyful nation in Europe
Britain has been named the least joyful nation in Europe, according to new research. The Gross Domestic Pleasure (GDP) Index scored 12 European countries on everyday joy. Sweden (76/100), Poland (75/100) and Hungary (72/100) topped the list, while the UK came last with just 47/100.
The formula from Menabrea in partnership with behavioural psychologist Jo Hemmings measures joy by weighing positive inputs (Social Connection, Rest & Recovery, Creativity & Flow, and Gratitude & Mindfulness) against the costs of Daily Demands, Time Scarcity, and Poor Sleep.
London currently leads the way in Gross Domestic Pleasure, with a score of 25.3, while Glasgow came last with 22.1. Newcastle (25.1) and Edinburgh (24.9) completed the top three, wi
