IT’S BOUND TO happen: business owners deciding to retire.

That’s the case at The Ice House in Rye, with owners Keith and Kathy Malinowski, deciding to say a “sweet goodbye.” The two opened the ice cream shop and restaurant in the summer of 1980. The original scoop room was the retrofitted pilot house of an old tugboat, according to its website.

But it might not be the end for the landmark seasonal business.

“We are hoping and praying that someone will come in and continue the tradition and keep it all alive,” the family wrote on Facebook.

The property is listed for sale for $1.5 million and includes all the restaurant equipment, which allows a “new owner to seamlessly continue operations or create their own vision.” The 2,509-square-foot building includes space for about 48 guests in
