The University of Newcastle’s Callaghan campus recently bid farewell to one of its most popular cafés, The Hive, following the ending of its lease.

It comes as local operator Wabi Sabi, which already runs Cadre in the precinct, takes over the space.

The Hive had been a popular spot at the university for several years for students to grab a coffee or something to eat.

However, the change has sparked discussion among pupils about how food and coffee options on campus may shift.

Psychology student Madeline Vanderplank admitted she was devastated to see The Hive go.

“I went to The Hive almost every morning for their bacon and egg rolls,” she said.

“Now, there isn’t anywhere close by that I can get them.

“I was completely unaware of the change happening.”
