REMSEN, Iowa (KCAU) — Community members in one Plymouth County town have successfully raised more than $7 million to build a new elementary school.

Work continues on Remsen St. Mary’s new elementary school building, which will be connected to the current 5-12 portion of the building. Remsen St. Mary's is a private Catholic school that was founded in 1887.

Construction crews broke ground in July and were seen preparing the ground for the foundation today.

$7 million was raised out of their $10 million goal. Now, all that’s left is $3 million for upgrades to the existing middle and high school building. Those upgrades include a new air-conditioning system for the 5-12 building, upgraded wiring, and installation of a fire-suppression system.
