FAIRMONT, W.Va. — Trailing 21-14 in the fourth quarter, Fairmont Senior used a pair of two-yard touchdown runs from Anthony Smith to rally past their county rivals from North Marion, 27-21 in overtime.
“We’ve got to win the county first and then city to go on and win the state,” said Fairmont Senior head coach Mark Sampson. “That is our ultimate goal.”
The Polar Bears scored three of their touchdowns on the ground, buoyed by a strong rushing attack from Tarran Boda, Christian Hrapchak and Smith.
“We want to be around 50-50. All year we have been around 55-45, 60-40. Today, we relied on the big guys up front. And they did a great job for us.”
