HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A new affordable housing project celebrated reaching a major milestone Friday afternoon on Pensacola Street.

Lam Capital hosted a topping-off ceremony, honoring the 75 construction workers who contributed to the project.

Crews initially broke ground in January with construction officially beginning in March.

Once completed, the building will include 90 affordable rental units for local families.

“This has to be one of the fastest build projects in the state of Hawaii,” said Lance Berringer, superintendent for Island Structural Contracting.

The project is a Bill 7 development , referring to legislation passed in 2019 to accelerate the construction of affordable housing.

A ribbon-cutting is expected next May.
