BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WBRC ) - As lawmakers in Washington D.C. discuss funding the federal government, the Alabama Department of Public Health is watching closely as further budget cuts to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are on the table.

The current proposed federal budget for 2026 would cut funding for the Center for Disease Control by around 50%.

In Alabama, Dr. Scott Harris with the Alabama Department of Public Health says over two-thirds of their money comes from federal funding.
