At the Randall Parkway entrance to the University of North Carolina Wilmington, a man was standing with a sign proclaiming "Fear Won't Win."

It was less than 24 hours after reports of an unconfirmed gunman on campus, which placed the university under a shelter-in-place warning for over two hours on Sept. 18 until an all clear was given with reports deemed a false alarm .

As for Sept. 19, there was little activity around UNCW. Classes were cancelled out of an abundance of caution, although some students remained on campus.

For UNCW student Talan Barnak, the shelter-in-place alert was a scary experience.
