A single act of killing can tell you something about a country, but it won’t be much. In a nation as large and polarized as ours, and with as many guns as we have, political violence will be impossible to extinguish completely. What matters much more for a country’s politics and its future is how those in positions of power respond when it happens. On that metric, America is failing.
