Matt Waldron made his final start of the minor league season Friday.
The knuckleballer allowed five runs in five innings and Triple-A El Paso lost an 8-5 decision at Sugar Land.
Waldron struck out four and allowed five hits and two walks. Two of the hits left the yard.
Waldron finishes the minor league season with a 6.67 ERA, 85 strikeouts and 30 walks in 90⅓ innings across starts in rookie ball, Double-A San Antonio and El Paso.
Waldron was supposed to compete for a spot in the rotation in spring training but began the season on the injured list with an oblique injury. He made one start in the majors this year, allowing four runs in 4⅔ innings in late June in Philadelphia.
Right-hander Francis Pena (4-4, 4.99 ERA) allowed three runs in 1⅔ innings in the loss.
