In the sunset season for the concrete cathedral so often overflowed with as many as 80,000 passionate patrons, WIVB News 4 Buffalo is taking a daily look back over 400 games played in the Orchard Park stadium’s 52 years.

Sept. 20

1987 — Bills 34, Oilers 30 — Two days before the player strike that would alter the ’87 season, Jim Kelly engineered a fourth quarter comeback for the first time in his NFL career. Leading three touchdown drives in the final nine minutes, Kelly found Ronnie Harman for the winning score with 57 seconds left. Kelly had 293 yards passing, more than double his Houston counterpart Warren Moon (142 yards) but Mike Rozier rushed for 150 yards against a Buffalo defense missing Bruce Smith and Darryl Talley for most of the afternoon after they were ejected for fighting.
