Uber is piloting a new feature in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Detroit that allows female drivers and passengers to be matched with other women, aiming to make its platform more comfortable for women.
"I think it's a good service that finally Uber is offering," said Heather Qwilleren, a rideshare driver for more than a decade. "I've had several people who have said they're glad this finally came out."
An Uber spokesperson confirmed the company plans to expand the feature to more cities but did not specify when Sacramento riders and drivers might see the option.
At Sacramento International Airport, rideshare passengers welcomed the new feature as they awaited rides.
"I think just having the option to choose feels really nice," said Jovonne Dempster, a rideshare passenger.
