STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A former high school teacher who previously lived in Tottenville has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for enticing a minor to engage in sexual activity, federal prosecutors announced.

Sandy Carazas-Pinez, 36, was a high school teacher at a school for kindergarten through 12th grade students in Yonkers when the abuse occurred, prosecutors said.

The married mother of three had moved to Bethel, Connecticut , before the allegations.

From around November of 2022 through February of 2023, Carazas-Pinez abused her role as a teacher and induced a 16-year-old student into a months-long sexual relationship, according to a press release issued by the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York, Jay Clayton.
