MANITOU SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - Hundreds of runners participated in a race to the top of Pikes Peak on Saturday, the Pikes Peak Ascent!

The Saturday schedule:

7 a.m. – Start of the Ascent

9 a.m. – Post-Race Party Expo Opens at Memorial Park

4 p.m. – Ascent Awards Ceremony

Runners began in front of Manitou Springs City Hall, turned onto Ruxton Avenue towards the Barr Trail, and then began their ascent up the summit.

Runners took off from the starting line in waves every 90 seconds. Manitou Avenue and Ruxton Avenue were both closed until 9 a.m. Pikes Peak Summit was closed to visitors on Saturday until after 2 p.m.

Due to the Pikes Peak Marathon on Sunday, the incline will be closed all weekend for the safety of participants and visitors.
