Legendary singer Morrissey has canceled two gigs in New England after receiving a “credible” threat that he would be assassinated on stage.

The New York Post reported that the singer from the hugely influential 1980s band The Smiths had pulled gigs in Boston and Connecticut in the wake of the threat.

A note on Morrissey’s official social media page on Friday read: “In recent days, there has been a credible threat on Morrissey’s life.”

“All tickets will be refunded automatically at your original point of purchase,” the post read.

Morrissey, whose full name is Steven Patrick Morrissey, thanked his fans for understanding.
