Cubs advised to gamble on Mets' fallen star for closer role

The Chicago Cubs have explored several options to close out games. Over the winter, they signed Ryan Pressly to take over the role, but he struggled mightily and was replaced by Daniel Palanecia.

Palencia has performed well in his new role, appearing in 52 games and holding a 3.00 ERA with 22 saves across 51 innings of work. Unfortunately, they will be without their high-leverage man for some time as he currently sits on the 15-day IL with a right shoulder strain.

His availability for the postseason is uncertain, which is not ideal for the Cubs. They will likely target some bullpen pitchers this winter, and could take a gamble on this failed New York Mets trade acquisition.
