GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - BYU’s tailgate, called “Party With a Purpose,” partnered with Greenville’s Purple Pantry, a food bank for college students, collecting food donations at the game on Saturday.
Leslie McCarlie, the Cougs Care coordinator for the ECU game, said it was a gesture of appreciation for the hosting team and a way to contribute to the communities they travel to for football games.
Dennis Ross, an orthodontist who is a big donor and volunteer for the Williams-Ross Purple Pantry, said he was happy to see BYU’s mission.
“Just enjoy giving back,” Ross told WITN. “It’s crazy to think that 10 to 15 percent of ECU’s students are food insecure, and this is a big gesture to be able to help them so they can get stuff off the shelves, no questions asked.”
