"Distressing damage" has prompted a Midland council to install CCTV in two of its cemeteries. Authorities say they are taking the step in an effort to "to deter crime and anti-social behaviour".

Oadby and Wigston Borough Council in Leicestershire has put cameras in Wigston cemetery and Oadby cemetery after years of worries from local people. During the past two years, our sister title LeicestershireLive has covered numerous incidents at the borough's cemeteries which have been branded "upsetting and disgraceful" following neglect, anti-social behaviour and vandalism.

Last year, yobs targeted graves in an "appalling" atttack at Wigston Cemetery. The council branded the damage as "heartbreaking for the victims" at the time.
