The Stratus Covid-19 strain is making its way across the UK, with UK households being urged to look out for an initial symptom.

In the seven days up to September 3, there were 1,541 cases recorded across England, according to the latest UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) data.

This means it is up 7.1 per cent week-on-week, specifically for cases of the Stratus (XFG) strain.

Stratus is a "variant under monitoring," according to the World Health Organization, though it is not thought to produce a more severe illness.

Speaking to the Mirror, Dr Nye said: "In most ways, it's almost identical.

"However, people with this version tend to get very sore throats and a hoarse voice, compared with the other more general symptoms like cough, temperature and aches.
