There are two candidates vying for one seat in the race for Sunset Beach mayor.

Nicholas Peters is challenging the current mayor, Shannon "Hot Dog" Phillips, who has filed for re-election.

This beach town is located in southern Brunswick County, and according to the town's website, it had 5,780 registered voters in 2024.

The town has a mayor-council form of government, with one mayor and a board of five councilors with one acting as the mayor pro tempore. This race is nonpartisan. In Sunset Beach, the mayor serves a two-year term and receives an annual stipend of $2,867, paid in quarterly installments.

The municipal election will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 4, and polls will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Voters may also cast their ballots absentee by mail and during the early voting
