One year after being struck by Tropical Storm Helene, Western North Carolina is still recovering. I see the first colors of fall, but they are slated to not be as brilliant as usual. Only 9% of $60 billion in damages has been received. Some 7,000 homes are waiting for repairs. Nevertheless, the people are still warm hearted and welcoming. They believe in helping each other and visitors and the views are still great.
North Carolina Gov. Josh Stein requested $13.6 billion in recovery funds, which will go to a variety of needs: housing and urban development, small businesses, community disaster loan
