CAPE CHARLES, Va. — Virginia is earning national attention for its small-town appeal. HGTV recently released a list of the 40 most charming downtowns across the United States, and three Virginia communities, Middleburg, Cape Charles and Charlottesville, were included.

The network said it considered places with lively main streets, historic character, unique shops and a strong sense of local culture.

Cape Charles

Located at the southern end of Virginia’s Eastern Shore, Cape Charles offers a seaside escape less than an hour from Virginia Beach. The town is characterized by colorful Victorian homes, boutique shops and neighborhood eateries such as Cape Charles Coffee House.
