For the second time this season, there have been no changes at the top of the heap in the six WPIAL classifications or the City League.
But that does not mean there aren’t a few new faces in the mix as the season reaches its halfway point.
New Castle, the new No. 5 in Class 4A, is entering the rankings for the first time this season. The Red Hurricanes are riding a three-game shutout streak, which will be tested this week when they host No. 1 Aliquippa.
Also new to the rankings is undefeated Freeport in Class 3A. That classification is the only one with five undefeated teams in the rankings. It also has the new No. 1 in the state in Avonworth, which has quality wins against Class 4A No. 1 Aliquippa and No. 2 Thomas Jefferson.
