It’s no secret that Class 3A is loaded this season.

Avonworth is the defending WPIAL champion, lost in overtime in the 2024 state championship game and is back — perhaps better than last year — with signature wins against Aliquippa and Thomas Jefferson.

Imani Christian has two Penn State recruits in running back David Davis and quarterback Gabe Jenkins, and the only team to even give the Saints a game so far is WPIAL and state Class 1A No. 1 Clairton.

And don’t forget about North Catholic, which is setting the world on fire. The Trojans have already scored 42 touchdowns this season, an average of 8.4 per game.

But the one unbeaten team that has kind of slipped under the radar in the classification is Freeport. The Yellowjackets have quietly jumped out to a 5-0 record this season.
