New Orleans is closing out summer on a warm and sunny note, but a front later this week is expected to trigger midweek storms and, eventually, bring slightly milder, less humid conditions heading into the first weekend of fall.

Sunday, the last day of summer, will see partly cloudy skies, low humidity and highs in the low 90s. A stray shower is possible this afternoon, but most of the region will stay dry.

Monday marks the fall equinox, but summer temperatures will persist. Highs will remain in the low 90s through midweek, with humidity climbing steadily. Rain chances will tick up to 20% Monday and Tuesday, before peaking Thursday around 70%, according to the National Weather Service. Scattered storms could bring much-needed soaking rain to areas experiencing dry to moderate drought.
