Tyendinaga Mohawks are hosting a meeting to welcome nominations for candidates who plan to run in the election for Tyendinaga Mohawk Council later this year.

The nomination meeting is set for Oct. 18 “for the purposed nominating candidates for the positions of chief and councillors of the band council for the next ensuing term,” said Vaughn Johnston, electoral officer.

Hosted by Tyendinaga Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte, the meeting will be held at the Quinte Mohawk School 1624 York Rd., Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory. The meeting is scheduled from noon to 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.

There are roughly 10,300 members who belong to the Mohawks Bay of Quinte of which 2,200 live inside the territory and a further 3,000 who live in the Quinte region.
