SULLIVAN COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) - The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency is investigating after a Virginia man died after the boat he was on hit a bridge pillar on Saturday.

According to the TWRA, a bass boat carrying two people on South Holston Lake in Sullivan County hit a pillar that holds up the Highway 421 bridge at around 9:45 p.m.

The collision resulted in the passenger, 72-year-old Ronald E. Taylor, being pronounced dead at the scene and serious injuries to the boat’s operator, who was flown to the Johnson City Medical Center, TWRA said. Additionally, Taylor’s body will be sent to a medical examiner for an autopsy.
