Winnipeg Police say a man wanted on a parole suspension is in custody after two elderly pedestrians were violently assaulted in the city’s West End.

On September 20, officers were called to the 300 block of Elgin Avenue at 6:32 p.m. after reports of a man running into traffic and targeting passing vehicles. Moments later, an 80-year-old woman and an 85-year-old man walking nearby were attacked.

Police allege the suspect ran at the woman, shoving her to the ground before repeatedly punching and stomping her. When the man tried to intervene, he was punched in the face and knocked down. Both victims were struck several more times while on the ground.

The couple was taken to hospital, where one remained in unstable condition and the other in stable condition. Both suffer
