CLEVELAND — North Olmsted police asked drivers to avoid the area around Brookpark Road and Great Northern Boulevard Sunday afternoon as crews responded to a fire at a high-rise apartment complex that displaced dozens of families from their homes.
According to a Facebook post from the North Olmsted Police Department just before 2:30 p.m., the eastbound lanes of Brookpark Road were shut down at Great Northern Boulevard around the Westbury Apartments, located at 25151 Brookpark Road.
Fire officials say the fire broke out around 1:45 p.m. on the fifth floor of the building. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
“You couldn’t see in front of you, you couldn’t see nothing," said Elisha Galik, a tenant. “I’ll be probably traumatized after the shock wears off a little bit.”
