MERCER COUNTY, Ky. (FOX 56) — Chief Glenn Phillips of the Mercer County Fire District passed away Sunday, according to officials.

Members of the district announced Fire Chief Phillips' passing on Sept. 21 with "tremendous sadness."

Those who knew Chief Phillips said he was a great firefighter and a great person. His retirement had been accepted by the fire district on Aug. 18.

Mercer County fire officials wrote on Sunday that an escort in Phillips' honor would be taking place on the US-127 bypass from his hometown of Salvisa to the Ransdell Funeral Home in Harrodsburg.

Staff wrote on social media that funeral arrangements for Chief Phillips would be announced once they'd been finalized.
