A fire in a duplex in northeast Calgary on Saturday afternoon displaced five residents and sent a toddler to the hospital. The incident occurred in the Livingston community, specifically in the 100 block of Calhoun Common N.E., around 2:00 p.m.

The Calgary Fire Department responded to reports of the blaze and found heavy smoke and flames coming from the rear of the two-storey duplex. Firefighters noted that the fire was pushing through the roof.

According to the fire department, occupants were evacuating the building, but some were reportedly unable to escape. The fire quickly spread from the original duplex to an adjacent home to the east.

Fire crews attacked the fire from the rear using large hose lines and an aerial ladder. They conducted thorough searches of all affected homes to ensure that no one was trapped inside. Neighbors had already assisted one occupant in escaping before firefighters arrived on the scene.

Both sides of the duplex suffered substantial damage, while the adjacent structures experienced limited damage, primarily from smoke and burned siding.

As a result of the fire, five residents were displaced. A toddler was taken to the hospital for minor smoke exposure as a precaution, according to the fire department.
