A 39-year-old man from Ottawa has been charged with multiple offenses related to impaired driving following a four-vehicle accident on Highway 417 late Friday night. The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) reported that they received a call about the crash shortly before 11:30 p.m. in the westbound lanes near Metcalfe Road.

Upon arrival, officers suspected that one of the drivers was under the influence of alcohol. A roadside screening test was conducted, but the driver later refused to provide breath samples to an OPP testing specialist. This refusal led to several charges against him, including operation while impaired, refusal to comply with testing, and dangerous operation of a vehicle. He also faces two counts of driving while prohibited and operating a vehicle without insurance.

As a result of these charges, the man's driver's license was suspended for 90 days, and his vehicle was impounded for seven days. Two individuals, including the accused, sustained minor injuries and were taken to the hospital by emergency medical services.

The accused is scheduled to appear in court in Ottawa at a later date.
