As a mom of a childhood cancer survivor, Shannon Shepherd has ties with other families in Sarnia-Lambton who’ve gone through similar heart-wrenching journeys.

“Even just locally . . . there’s five or six families I personally know,” she said.

Sunday, at Sarnia’s inaugural fundraising walk for support charity Childcan, there were at least a couple of families she didn’t recognize, she said.

“It’s shocking to me how quickly something like this can bring together a bunch of families,” she said.
