BISMARCK, ND (KXNET) — The National Weather Service (NWS) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) are reporting that North Dakotans have a chance to see the Aurora Borealis on the night of September 21.

The NWS and NOAA use a dashboard that tracks space forecasts, and September 21 has above-average odds for Aurora activity. Notably, the dashboard places the view line into South Dakota, meaning the entire state of North Dakota has some chance to see the aurora.

The event on September 21 is expected to be less widespread and vibrant than the one on Sunday, September 14, was. However, with clearer skies forecasted, North Dakotans should have unobstructed views. The best odds are furthest north, with charts showing the best chances north of Minot.
