Most NFL teams live in the same neighborhood, a place called Mediocrity Manor. Upwards of 20 of them reside there at a given time.
The other 12 are split between an upscale town called Contenderville — teams with a real chance to win the Super Bowl — and Hopeless Ridge, where the only real hope is winning the No.1 pick in the draft. Or at least finding a franchise quarterback.
Like many neighborhoods, Mediocrity Manor varies from street to street. Some of the houses are quite nice. The Steelers live in one. They’ve been there for years and seem rather comfortable in what one might call high-end mediocrity. Other homes are quite shabby, although the New England Patriots would like one of those after two years in Hopeless Ridge.
