The City of Orlando is considering a significant expansion of red light cameras as part of its Vision Zero traffic safety plan.

Of the city’s 500 intersections with traffic lights, only 25 currently have cameras that can detect violations and trigger a ticket. City commissioners are now weighing a plan that would add 35 more cameras in high-risk areas across town.

Commissioner Shan Rose said the goal is to improve safety, not revenue.

“Everyone wants a speed bump in their community, and I think this creates an opportunity to remind people that safety is first,” Rose said.
