MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Republican Senator Marsha Blackburn claims the National Guard troops expected in Memphis, will not only assist in fighting crime, but will also protect shipping throughout the area.

With FedEx being headquartered in Memphis, it makes the city one of the largest logistics hubs in the United States, in addition to being a port city.

One of the city's major interstates, I-40, is one of the longest and most used ground transportation routes in the country.

Sen. Blackburn warns with a lot of cargo coming through the area, it makes the city a frequent target for criminals. "But what a lot of people may not realize is that many of these criminal gangs have been focused on cargo theft. This is how they pay for their activities," Blackburn said.
